There seemed to be ray of light at the end of the tunnel of the collapsed national grid.

In this 2022 alone, the national grid has crumbled for seven times, thereby brought darkness to most parts of the country.

Allcitynews.ng learnt that the Monday’s 26/9/22 incident happened at  about 11 am. It affected only a section of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Afam IV, on the grid but with zero supply as of 12 noon.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for instance, recently confirmed the  rise  in its daily allocation to over 500MW from the actual 300MW it had distributed before then.

NUEE in one of its picketings

Worrisome, organised labour in energy sector, National Union of Electricity Employees Workers (NUEE) has been crying out against the failure of new owners of the company to go above the 5,000MW which they inherited since they took over the company nine years ago.

Still baffled that the expected objective of the privatisation which was to bring turnaround development seemed not visible, NUEE led by the National President, Comrade Martin Uzoegwu and the General Secretary, Comrade Joe Ajaero have continued to drum for reversal of the privatisation of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) based on the failure.

Beating drum of reversal, the duo expressing their displeasure over the way and manner the privatisation was done, stressed that the whole exercise was done in questionable manner as those who took over not only have no needed expertise to handle the company but also they have not bought a single equipment to boost the electricity since they took over.

During a press briefing

Uzoegwu and Ajaero, reiterated their call for total reversal of the privatisation exercise of electricity as the investors are only interested in profit-making by milking Nigerians but also they are making consumers to keep paying for services not rendered.

Irked by the way people are being made to pay for the investors’ inefficiencies, Uzoegwu and Ajaero in different events said they wondered how can the company meet the demands of the general public when they are still operating with installed capacity of 12,522 megawatts (mw), years after, adding that the company had not been able to generate beyond 5,000mw, which is insufficient for the population of 200 million people.
