Public outcry and condemnation have continued to trail the 2023 Easter advets by hitherto renowned and respected company, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, maker of peak milk.

u

While they called Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria [APCON] for severe punishment on FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, to act as deterrent.

They noted that Advertising regulatory body who ordinarily ought to take the first step in sanctioning erring companies, seems waiting for public outcries from Nigerians before they move into action against the defaulting firms.

“Or isn’t true that Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria [APCON] few months ago announced its change of name to the Advertising Regulatory Council? then,
APCON as the regulatory body is meant to among other things promote responsible and ethical advertising practice;
Act as the conscience of society and watchdog for the consumers; whilst managing the needs and interests of the stakeholders in Nigeria’s Advertising Industry? Then, eyes are on this regulatory body to act now or else, more harms when done in furture may not hold water, they said.”

As people don’t care what you know until they know that you care, APCON should show how caring it in promoting and protecting consumers’ rights and interest that are being hurt by FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC.

It would be recalled, during 2022 Easter, Sterling Bank came out with almost similar mockery advert, whereby it likened the resurrection of Jesus with rising of Agege bread.

When APCON, the Ombudsman in Nigeria advertising industry promised punishment on Sterling Bank, as at that time was not known to the public, so another reputable company, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC. did another one in 2023, and that was a reminder that because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

Unless sentiment is not allowed to override good judgment in Nigeria, APCON should not allow people to turn it into toothless bulldog.

On his part, a unionist, Comrade Kazeem Olokodana while speaking with allcitynews.ng noted that “And because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of maker of Peak Milk repeated what Sterling Bank did in 2022.

And if Jesus tarries in his second coming, in 2024 Easter, another company will do another one unless severe punishment is meted out now.”

In the same vein, another unionist, Comrade James Aloba called for speedy actions by APCON to avoild repeat of offensive adverts. “If this kind of advert was carried in civilised environment, people would have registered their anger by rejecting buying Peak Milk.”
