The growing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on advertising, brand communication and creative agency operations will take centre stage at the forthcoming Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria (BJAN) conference.
The workshop is expected to provide an important platform for industry professionals, academics and students to examine the future of advertising practice in Nigeria.
With over 100 students drawn from Lagos State University (LASU), Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) and the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, expected to participate, the conference will offer an opportunity for emerging communication professionals to engage with industry experts on the opportunities, challenges and implications of AI for the advertising and marketing ecosystem.
Scheduled for Friday, November 6, 2026, in Lagos, the conference, themed, “Advertising in Nigeria & AI: Who Needs Creative Agency?, will bring together academics, advertising practitioners, marketing professionals, brand communication experts and technology stakeholders to discuss how emerging technologies are reshaping the industry.
Beyond providing a forum for professional engagement, the conference is expected to strengthen the connection between industry practice and communication education, particularly as AI-powered technologies increasingly influence content creation, consumer research, campaign planning, audience engagement and brand management.
The participation of students from the three institutions underscores the importance of preparing the next generation of communication professionals for an industry undergoing significant technological transformation.
Through interactions with experienced practitioners, students are expected to gain insights into the changing demands of advertising, the skills required to remain relevant and the need to balance technological innovation with human creativity, strategic thinking and professional judgment.
The conference will also examine how advertising agencies can integrate AI into their management operations, creative processes and service delivery while retaining the human insight, cultural understanding and originality that remain central to effective brand communication.
Among the speakers announced for the event are Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON); Mr. Lolu Akinwunmi, Group Chief Executive Officer of Prima Garnet; and Bethel Obioma, Head of Corporate Communications at Sahara Group.
Their contributions are expected to provide perspectives on advertising regulation, creative agency management, brand strategy and corporate communication in an increasingly AI-driven business environment.
The conference will also feature a panel session moderated by Tolulope A. Modasbem, Chief Executive Officer of Lead Central and author of *Integrated Marketing*.
Other panellists include Angela Ukara-Makinde, Chief Engagement Strategist at EXP Marketing Nigeria and Vice President of BJAN; Adeola Amosun, Group Media Manager at Tolaram Group; Dr. Seyi Akindeinde, Founder of Hyperspace Technologies; George Isitu-Okukwe, Chief Executive Officer of TBWA\Concept; and Dr. Oludare Ogunyemi, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State.
According to BJAN Chairman, Mr. Daniel Obi, the conference will provide opportunities for industry professionals to exchange ideas on the implications of AI for brand building and the future of advertising practice in Nigeria.
Discussions are expected to explore how AI can improve productivity, facilitate targeted campaigns and enhance marketing performance, while addressing critical concerns around intellectual property, data privacy, originality, automation and the future of professional skills.
The gathering is also expected to promote stronger collaboration between industry practitioners and academic institutions in identifying the competencies, ethical standards and practical knowledge required to prepare students for emerging demands in advertising, marketing and corporate communications.
The conference will hold at the Luxury Event Centre, 2, M.K.O. Abiola Drive, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
Through the annual gathering, BJAN seeks to advance professional development, encourage knowledge exchange and promote innovation among stakeholders in advertising, marketing, journalism, corporate communications and related fields.
