When men and women of legal system embarked on nationwide protests, they tried to avoid the popular saying that justice delayed is a justice denied from repeating itself again in their demand.

Irked by the systemic delay in the implementation of financial autonomy for judiciary sector, the members of Nigerian legal system stormed all Houses of Assembly across the 36 states yesterday.

The protest which was part of solidarity with judiciary workers who have been on strike in the last two weeks was to further fast track and enforce the demand of the judiciary workers.

The men and women of the Bar who kept their wigs and gowns in the shelves for the sake of obtaining one main demand, financial freedom, was led by Barrister Batholomew Aguegbodo, the Lagos State Chairman of NBA.

After presenting their letter of demand and protest to the protocol officer in the office of the state governor, Mr Sanwo-Olu, Aguegbodo told the press that the letter which was meant to tell the federal and all state governments of the need for Implementation of the financial freedom, was also to inform them that failure to comply with their one-point demand would make NBA to embark on street protests every Monday until their request was met.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had last year signed the executive order granting financial autonomy to the judiciary and in May 2020, after several agitations.

On Monday, the protesting lawyers led by Aguegbodo were kept in hot sun for almost one hour as the security gate was shut.

It took the disciplined mind of Aguegbodo to calm down members of the Bar that were angered by the unjustifiable delay by the security officers.

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) embarked on strike on April 6, 2021 over failure of state governments to implement that financial autonomy for the judiciary which would give them independence from the executive
