MFM Topic, MON 25\09\23:-lessons from the life of Nehemiah [1]

Welcome to MFM Devotional, 25\09\23

HOW TO COMPLETE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:- Isaiah 55; Isaiah 56; Luke 21; Luke 22

PRAISE & WORSHIP:
1 Ho, reapers in the whitened harvest!
Oft feeble, faint and few;
Come, wait upon the blessed Master,
Our strength He will renew.

Refrain:
For “they that wait upon the Lord
shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings,
they shall mount up with wings as eagles,
They shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint;
They shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint;
They shall run and not be weary,
shall walk and not faint.”

2 Too oft aweary and discouraged,
We pour a sad complaint;
Believing in a living Saviour,
Why should we ever faint? [Refrain]

3 Rejoice, for He is with us alway,
Lo, even to the end!
Look up, take courage and go forward,
All needed grace He’ll send! [Refrain]

MEMORY VERSE: 1 Timothy 4:12
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
A life well lived is not measured by the number of years, but the number of lives positively impacted.

25/9/23 PROPHETIC WORD:
Your life shall be divinely contagious with lasting impact on generations, in the name of Jesus.

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Nehemiah 2:1-8 [KJV]
 And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.

Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid,

And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?

Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.

And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it.

And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.

Moreover I said unto the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may convey me over till I come into Judah;

And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me

25-09-23 MESSAGE:

There are many lessons to leam from the life of Nehemiah, who epitomised of godly character and exuded genuine love for God and man, even at such a time in history. Nehemiah means one who offers hope and comfort. It wouldn’t be a surprise, therefore, that Nehemiah was divinely prepared to bring hope and comfort to his people. This he did by initiating and monitoring the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem which were in ruins at that time.

Not only did he do this, he was also a social and spiritual reformer that helped to restructure the social life of his people, brought fair justice and fair play between the rich and the poor. Most importantly, he took his people back to God; to know His commandments as delivered to their fathers and to do the will of God as stated in these commandments.

Nehemiah was also an intercessor! He turned to God in prayer. He confessed the sins of his ancestors, and sought for God’s forgiveness and mercy. Note this: Nehemiah did not exclude himself from the guilt of his ancestors’ sins before the Lord. It was a “we have sinned prayer” and not “they have sinned”. He identified with them before the Lord.

Thereafter, he sought the favour of the king to go and do the work of rebuilding.
The king, who never saw Nehemiah in a sad mood before, was moved to show him favor and grant him all the assistance he sought for.

Looking inwards, beloved, how much of the same have you done on behalf of your homeland or family? Is it all curses and negative pronouncements without a word of prayer for divine intervention in such situations? God is calling for men and women who can stand in the gap at such times! Are you ready to be a Nehemiah at this time, turning to God for the rebuilding and revival of your fatherland?

Dear reader, where are you in God’s plan to lead men back to Him? God wants us to leam from men like Nehemiah, avoid their errors and embrace their good deeds, so that we can do better. You can still do something for God and your fatherland at a time like this. Decide to be a Nehemiah!
