Beloved! Try to make use of the shuttle buses provided by the Mother Church. They are for all members to save us from running across the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The buses are parked by Prayer City & at Magboro Market, they will take members from Magboro Market and back after services as okada riders & vehicles don’t normally observe one way traffic rule along that route.

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 11:6-19
6 And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.
7 And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.
8 And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.
9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.
10 And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house?
11 And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.
12 And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.
13 And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.
14 And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.
15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.
16 And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.
17 And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.
18 Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;
19 And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king,
SUNDAY JANUARY 19 MESSAGE:-
Beloved, we will continue our discourse on Uriah today. It is quite interesting how some seemingly insignificant characters in the Bible can shine through and loom large through commendable characters or heroic deeds. Uriah falls into this category.
Uriah was a dedicated and patriotic soldier who forsook all to be in the battle fieId. King David, on the other hand, lost the compassion and consideration for others. He was at home enjoying the pleasure of sin at a time when kings like him were at war. What a wrong time to do the wrong thing? Uriah was more thoughtful than the king, who was revered and honoured above all. God was angry with David. To him, it was a hidden sin before man, but not before God who saw it all. No wonder, God sent Nathan the prophet to him in 2 Samuel 12, and the divine verdict was delivered to David. The consequences of his sin went down through to his children.
Looking at Uriah, he demonstrated some unique character traits that many men would not do for the sake of the fear of the king. Yes, he feared and honoured the king, but above all, he honoured the Lord God of Israel and remained loyal till death. Uriah did not have a favourable ending but he stood for a just cause. He paid with his life for refusing to yield to what is wrong.
He was a man that would do the right thing at the right time and not at the wrong time. He was a disciplined man, not ready for a compromise, even at the instruction of the king. He must have suspected a kind of punishment for his failure to do the wish of the king, but wouldn’t know it would mean death. Either way, the unflinching loyalty of Uriah is worthy of emulation. He was a man of integrity and stood for righteousness in the face of human condemnation or judgement.
He died a silent hero. Though unsung, yet not forgotten! No one wants to die the death of Uriah, but let us learn to stand for what is right in spite of all odds as he did. It is a mark of loyalty and integrity. God cherishes and rewards men for such acts.
