MFM Topic, Sun 25 Feb 2024: hallmarks of true discipleship (2)

Beloved! Remember Bridges and walls are made with the same materials. But though Bridge joins the people, But Wall divides the people. Are you a Bridge that link people together or you are a Wall that separates people.

Welcome to MFM Devotional, 25 February 24

PRAISE & WORSHIP:

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

Refrain:
I surrender all, I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

2 All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel Thy Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine. [Refrain]

3 All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me. [Refrain]

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:Deuteronomy 13, Deuteronomy 14, Deuteronomy 15; 2 Corinthians 12, 2 Corinthians 13

MEMORY VERSE: Acts 11: 29
“Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea.”

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.

25 FEB PROPHETIC WORD:
Receive the grace to be Christ’s true  soldier, witness and disciple, in the name of Jesus.

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Acts 5: 26-41 {KJV}
Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

25 FEBRUARY MESSAGE:

Yesterday, we established the timeless truth that becoming true disciples of Christ and helping converts to become disciples are two major goals we should seek to achieve. We also began to examine the hallmarks of true disciple and how we can be one. We will continue and conclude the discourse today.

The fifth hallmark of true disciples is that they have life full of good works. In Acts 9:36, the Bible says, “Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and address which she did.”

The Bible records that this female disciple of Jesus fell sick and died. Having touched so many lives positively while alive, her good works spoke for her. People sent for Apostle Peter who prayed and raise her up to life.

Sixth, true disciples of Jesus Christ contribute according to their possibilities. They prove their loyalty to Jesus by worshipping Him with their substance and giving to His work or cause. In Acts 11: 28, the Bible affirms, “Then, the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt at Judea.

The seventh hallmark of true disciples is that they voluntarily face the offences they have to suffer because of Christ. In Acts 5, the Bible records that the anointing upon Apostle Peter was so great that his shadow was healing the sick and setting free those who were oppressed by the devil. The exploits of the apostle enraged the high priest. He arrested and imprisoned the apostles. But God sent His Angel to deliver His from the prison. The apostles were undeterred   and unperturbed. They still went on to preach God’s word in Jesus name.

The rulers beat the apostles and commanded them not to preach in the name of Jesus again. In spite of the beating, hostility and persecution, the Bible says the apostles departed from the presence of the council rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for the name, Acts 5:41.

Beloved, I encourage you to be a true disciple today. I also enjoin you to engage in soul winning daily and in making disciples of converts that the Lord brings your way. Your rewards shall be great here on earth and in heaven, in the name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Father! Let my life be full of good works, in the name of Jesus.

2. I receive the grace to endure hardship and persecution, in the name of Jesus.

3. Father! Touch the hearts of sinners and draw them to Yourself, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

4. I command hindrances and strongholds against discipleship to catch fire and burn to ashes, in the name of Jesus.
