TOPIC for SUN, 27/03/22: desire God’s glorious throne

CAC Living Water, March 27, 2022.

Read Jeremiah 17:12; Revelation 4:1-11

Jeremiah 17:12

A glorious high throne from the beginning Is the place of our sanctuary.

Revelation 4: 1-11

1 What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh?
2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,
6 just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:
7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered;
8 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not impute sin.”
9 Does this blessedness then come upon the circumcised only, or upon the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.
10 How then was it accounted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised.
11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also,

MEMORISE:
A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary (Jeremiah 17:12)

EXPOSITION
One of the ways to quickly identify a king is with his crown; whenever he is seated on the throne, you quickly recognise that there is a reigning king. Earthly kings and regents usually want their thrones to be distinguished from mere armed-chairs. This is evident in the ornamental materials used in making them, which make them very different from ordinary chairs. The description of the throne Solomon made for himself when he became king in Israel, is here described (1 Kgs. 10:18-20). If thrones of earthly kings can be that magnificent, how much more is the throne of the King of kings and Lord of lords? Look at the magnificence and awesomeness described in Revelation 4:1-11.

The Throne in today’s dose of the Living Water refers to God’s throne, i.e., the temple of Jerusalem, the throne of Yahweh. “Throne” is simply the seat of power and authority. The New Living Translation (NLT) of the Bible renders Jeremiah 17:12 as ‘But we worship at your throne–eternal, high, and glorious!’ God’s throne is high, glorious and eternal. When such a powerful and glorious throne is settled in one’s heart, the life cannot but be unique, set apart, and radiating God’s glory. The secret of a prosperous life is God reigning, i.e. setting up His throne in that life. Imagine the awesomeness of God’s throne described in Revelation 4:1-11 becoming characteristic of one’s life. No devil, no hell, no enemy can draw close for any evil.

Jeremiah, having condemned false objects of trust, ‘…high places of sin…’ (17:3) and an “arm of flesh” (v. 5), went ahead to set forth the Lord and His temple as the true object of confidence. God’s glory, the symbol of God’s presence, is there as proof in His temple and on His glorious throne. Let us imbibe the spirit of giving God the right spiritual worship at His presence, with holy hands and pure hearts (1 Tim. 2:8), replacing the idols in our hearts with the image of God’s presence and power. Only then can we see His glory duly manifested in our lives and situations.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Holy Spirit, reside in me and make my heart the throne of God.

2. Help me, O Lord, to desire Your presence, always, than sitting in the seat of sinners and the scornful.

3. Lord, reign supreme in this nation; wherever You are not allowed to rule, overrule; establish Your righteous throne everywhere.

EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: 1 Samuel 5 – 8
