In apparent bid to forestall accidents and destruction, Lagos State Government has given 7-day ultimatum to all Motorists, commercial bus drivers and traders operating on top of bridges across the state to relocate or face the consequence.
The statement on Wednesday 18 October 2023 by the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, disclosed that vehicles were causing significant obstructions around these bridges, which were negatively affecting the integrity of the bridges and traffic.
Despite several warnings, commercial bus drivers have continued to defy government orders. The present administration has invested substantial resources in constructing standard bus terminals/garages for commercial activities throughout Lagos.
The statement stated, “Every motorist/commercial bus driver operating along ‘Apongbon’ and ‘Idumota’ (Cater) Bridges, ‘Elegbata:, ‘Ebute-Ero’, and ‘Ejalonibu’ must urgently vacate these areas as LASTMA will commence strict enforcement operations immediately after the expiration of this ultimatum until zero tolerance is achieved across the state.”
Giwa further affirmed that after the ultimatum expires, any vehicles that contravene the order would be immediately charged to the Lagos State Mobile Court for prosecution.
