Global Rights sets for ‘Nigerian Mourn’ prog over mass atrocities in the land

By allcitynews.ng

With death of over 4,416 people and 2,653 abducted across Nigeria in 2023 alone, a concerned group has expressed its readiness to create more awareness for public participation in tackling the insecurity in the country.

Apparently saddened by mass atrocities in the country coupled with hardship among the masses, Global Rights has reiterated its its preparedness for a programme: “Nigerian Mourn.”

According to the Head of Secretariat, Nigerian MournsAbiodun Baiyewu, the event billed for Tuesday 28 May 2024 in Abuja is becoming imperative in order to restore safer and more secure future for everyone.

The statement read in part: “Reflecting on the impactful advocacy we held during previous commemorations of the National Day of Mourning, we wish to express our sincere gratitude for your unwavering leadership, support, and active participation.

Together, we have made significant strides in raising awareness about mass atrocities in Nigeria and demanding accountability for the victims of these incidents.

As we revisit the purpose of our collective efforts, it is dishearteningly clear that the fight against mass atrocities remains as urgent as ever. While we have seen progress since our last commemoration, recent records reveal alarming statistics: at least 4,416 People were killed, and 2,653 were abducted across Nigeria in 2023. These figures underscore the ongoing need for concerted action.

Therefore, it is with a heavy heart and an unwavering hope for a safer Nigeria that I invite you to join us once again in solidarity as we reaffirm our commitment to addressing mass atrocities in Nigeria at this National Day of Mourning Press Conference.

The National Day of Mourning aims to:

Provide Nigerians with an opportunity to unite in their outcry against the spiraling spate of insecurity in the country.

Serve as a platform to demand accountability for the lives lost and scores missing across the country.

Remember all who have died and the survivors who have been scarred as a result of the various crises.

Your past contributions have been instrumental in advocating for accountability for victims, and we believe that together, we can build on our momentum and continue making a tangible difference. I urge you to reflect on the journey toward a safer Nigeria, free from violence that we all aspire to, and I encourage you to recommit to the cause with renewed vigor. Let’s collaborate to shape the agenda and messaging for the upcoming press conference against mass atrocities, ensuring that our collective voice is heard loud and clear.
