Electricity stability: FG should ban generators

Electricity stability, FG should ban importation, sale of generators -NUFBTE

By Andrew Ojiezel

The National President of National Union of Food Beverage and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE) Comrade Oyelekan Lateef has again tied near-zero electricity in the country to alleged sabotage by some forces in the country.
Blaming the daily dearth of electricity supply on alleged sabotage by generator dealers across the country, Oyelekan called on Federal Government to take a drastic and bold step to ban importation, sales and use of generators to make everyone concentrate on growing the economy through tapping the untapped coal mines in Enugu and other natural resources that can be used for generation of electricity.

In another development, the food union helmsman, while addressing members of Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN) in the National Secretariat expressed worry over accusation by some aggrieved few members on tenure of union on elongation.
According to him, the extension of the tenure was a joint agreement to enable the completion of another hotel in Ibadan, Oyo State after the two hotels built in Ojodu Berger by the union.

“We are embarking on investment to create wealth for the members of the union. With investments, the union is bound to create jobs thereby reduce unemployment in the country.”

“Contrary to the impression been portrayed in some media, the truth remains that President of the union, Oyelekan was never involved in the initiative of the progressive idea of two years tenure extension.

“Rather, it was a collective decision of the union members across the country to the mutual benefit of all members. In a nutshell, the two years election deferment (popularly referred to as tenure elongation, is specifically targeted at achieving the building of another monumental hotel in Ibadan, Oyo State capital to be constructed, completed and commission latest by December 2022.”
Denying existence of any parallel body or faction within the union, Oyelekan pointed at the list of the leadership of 15 members which was fully signed by the 15 as evident that the food union is not factionalised, saying “We are 15 in number, it cannot be possible for two to say they are forming a parallel union or a factional.”

For more clarification Oyelekan said “Our union’s attention has been drawn to publications in some print, electronic and social media spreading misinformation to unsuspecting public insinuating the existence of crisis and claiming that our union has been fractionalised, this news is not be true but outright falsehood.
“The leadership of our Union remain intact without any division. The current members of the National Administrative Committee (NAC) elected on December 9, 2016 for a four years tenure are still solidly united. Out of 11 elected members of NAC, 10 are very united in performing their duties.”
