TOPIC for TUE 03/05/22:-time to run

WELCOME to DCLM Devotional for 03/05/22

TEXT:JOHN 20:1-10

KEY VERSE:
Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre” (JOHN 20:2, 4).

In life, running is not an option, but why one is running is equally important for every runner.

The passage for consideration is about three runners. One is a woman and the other two are men. They were all running for the same reasons although in different directions. Jesus was the reason they were running. Mary was the first to get to the tomb only to find it empty. She ran to tell Peter and John of her discovery. Peter and John heard the shocking news and decided to go see the tomb themselves. They ran back to the tomb with John outpacing Peter but he halted at the entrance of the tomb. Peter entered first. They both saw an empty tomb and believed that indeed Jesus was no longer in the grave.

Like Peter, John and Mary, now is the time for all to run with excitement to spread the good news. Today, you must run to tell others of Jesus and the power of His resurrection. It is time to run with the vision of the cross and the story of new life. The world is in a hurry to deny the significance of the cross and the reality of His resurrection, but it is the duty of the believer to tell the story to as many people as possible before they die.

These days, many people are refusing to accept Jesus. They are busy running away from eternal blessings and lasting happiness. You must not join the multitude in the race to a Christ-less eternity. Like Peter and John, run to Jesus and heed His invitation: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It is better to run to Jesus so as not to miss present and eternal “rest”.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:1 SAMUEL 14

3/5/22 MEDITATION

Weigh yourself on the balance

1. Jesus was crucified and buried, but yet the disciples were still awake with the thoughts of Jesus, vv1,2.
How much time do you give to think and meditate about Jesus, His words, His ways and His will?🤔
“Take my time and let it be consecrated into Thee”

2. When Mary came with the news of the empty tomb, the disciples immediately took action to verify, vv2,3.
Do you *immediately* act on things that have to do with God or you take your time to do it at your convenience?🤷‍
“I make haste and delayed not to keep Thy commandments” , Psalm 119:160.

3. The two disciples ran to see the empty tomb even when they had the option of “taking it easy”, v4.
Do you run with the message of the gospel or you are slow about it?🤷‍
“I therefore so run…” I Corinthian 9:26.

4. The disciples were curious and excited about the news, and immediately entered into the sepulchre, vv6,7.
Are you generally very excited and zealous about the gospel message or you are cold about it?

“The zeal of Thine house has consumed me.”

5. John stood at the entrance of the sepulchre while Peter was bold enough to jump into it first while John waited before he himself joined, vv6-8.
How bold and courageous are you in things of God?

“Only be thou strong and courageous” Joshua 1:8.

6. John and Peter were united in every thing. They both took the same steps without argument?
How united are you with true saints of God especially in evangelistic outreaches?

“How good and pleasant for brethren to work together in unity?”
