DAILY MANNA, DEEPER LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL, FRIDAY 7 JANUARY 2022: ANTIDOTE TO DESPIRE

By Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, General Superintendent, Deeper Life Bible Ministry worldwide

Topic for today 7/1/22: Antidote to despair

TEXT: PSALM 12:1-8

KEY VERSE:
“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him” (PSALM 12:5).

THE MESSAGE:
The state of the society today has left the world in utter perplexity. Moral values have disappeared, leaving the godly as an endangered specie. It is a situation that has led many into the pit of despondency.

David was not a stranger to such perplexing situations. Overwhelmed by the intrigues of deceivers and flatterers around him, as well as the culture of impunity engendered by wicked administration, he cried out to God for help, in the process, alluding, as Elijah earlier did, that,
“the godly man ceaseth”and “the faithful fail from among the children of men”. But as threatening as the situation was, God did not allow him to be consumed by the environment he feared.

The psalmist submits to the settled hope that God will halt the march of the wicked. He is always within reach to rescue the oppressed.
“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him…Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

David, as one of the worthies of old, qualifies to attest to the promptness of heaven in coming to the aid of those who run to God when there is trouble.

Our day is not one whit morally better than David’s. He escaped slipping into despair by praying to the Almighty.

The same spiritual weapon would avail in our ungodly generation. Believers must not join the ungodly multitudes or slip into despair. We must wait patiently for the Lord’s deliverance as we pray and serve Him in holiness and spread the gospel.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The sickening sinfulness of sinners should never make the saint sink.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
MATTHEW 14-16
