The organised labour in financial sector, Senior Association of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) has called on Federal Government to create more conducive business environment by tackling insecurity and provision of constant electricity.

Just as both the Association denied any alleged illegality in the election that took place last week.

New ASSBIFI President, Comrade Soji Oluwole further told Federal Government to assist employers of labour in the sector because of negative policies from government that are not only plaguing the sector but are also counterproductive on employees in the sector.

He said as a voice of workers in the banking and insurance sector, his concern is how to make both employers of labour and employees have sound condition of service, noting that workers need protection against negative policies.

In a related development, the new ASSBIFI President, Comrade Soji Oluwole together with outgone President, Comrade Oyinkan Olasanoye during the former handover of baton of leadership by Olasanoye, condemned the activities of Comrade Amina Danesi who is going about with fake news that she won the vote.

Stressing that Soji was duly elected in accordance with the law,  Oyinkan said the accusion of Comrade Amina Danesi on involvement in transfer of office was baseless.

The duo explained their disbelief in the way and manner with which Danesi is twisting the happenings during the just-concluded election.

Explaining further, both the outgone and new president said “It is unbelieveable what Comrade Amina Danesi is going about with. We were 128 members in the said election. Out of that 128, 120 members were duly accredited to vote. ASSBIFI Constitution said presidential election must be held during Triennial National Delegate Conference.

“So we held election in accordance with our constitution in the 11th Triennial National Delegate Conference of the Association which took place at Ogere Remo, Ogun State, between Friday 25 November and 26 November 2022.  Comrade Amina Danesi voted in the said election. She got 10 out of 120. She stormed out of the venue when she realised that she had just 10 votes. It was true that Comrade Amina Danesi won in her local unit. But how does winning in her inhouse bankers’ group election translate to national recogntion? It is unbelieveable that she could call 110 members out of 120, disgruntled members.”

Furthermore, Oyinkan described Danesi’s allegation on presence of policemen as meant to intimidate her, stressing that “we have never done Delegates Conferences without seeking protection of policemen, more especially in a period when there is insecurity. We always have all our events under protection of police. For Danesi to see presence of police as a way to intimidate her showed that she was not truthful in her words.”

In addition, Soji assured all members of the association that “I am here to build bridges not to burn bridges.”
