Alleged Fulani herdsmen again attacked and killed yet unspecified numbers of worshippers in Saint Francis Catholic Church, barely six months after Governor Rotimi Akeredolu vowed to end Fulani herdsmen attack.

The latest attack which took place today, Sunday 5 June 2022 at around 9.30am led to death of yet undisclosed number of casualties.

The gunmen were said to have entered the church while service was ongoing and opened fire on the worshippers and killed yet to be known numbers and injured many in the process.

The reported story said number of bodies had been removed from the church, with many who sustained injuries rushed to the Federal Medical Center, FMC, in Owo.

The eyewitnesses account said the gunmen stormed the church while service was going on and opened fire on the congregation.

One of the eyewitness who craved anonymity stated that the worshippers were caught off guard when the attackers arrived.

He added that the number of casualties could be higher because some attendees who were taken to the hospital gave up the ghost.

On condition of anonymity, a nurse in Owo disclosed that there are insufficient medical professionals on duty to attend to the injured victims in the hospital’s emergency unit, while some of the casualties have been transferred to private hospitals.

It would be recalled that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in January this year vowed to put an end to Fulani killings after they invaded and killed some people in the state.
