Worried by the way and manner some employers of labour are using unemployment in the country as licence to exploit Nigerians, the leadership of National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE), has cried out against anti-welfare activities by banks in the country.

Just as he linked fraud in banks to dearth of commitment by workers to the managements of their workplaces since 65 per cent of them are from outsourcing agents.

Having just 35 on permanent staff list is worrisome figure because it can not guarantee sincerity by 65 per cent that in majority in banks.

The Deputy General Secretary, Comrade Abiodun Olusola who made this known on behalf of the President, Comrade Anthony Abakpa, in his office blamed shortage of motivation for outsourced workers for fraud in banks.

Claiming that marginalisation by managements of banks for
outsourced workers often bring lost of discouragement on the part of such workers whereby they can divulge useful and confidential information of customers to outsiders.

Olusola reiterated that most workers who entered the banks through outsourcing are often discouraged after long wait for permanent staffing. As a result of that, they can work against the interests of the managements when their hope for conversion into full and permanent is dashed.

He appealed to employers of labour to boost the morales of their outsourced
workers by giving them the sense of belonging through saving them from elongated wait for conversion into the banks mainstream.

“Since majority of workforce in banks are through outsourcing, such workers knowing they have no stake in such workplace, are always tempted to work against the interests of the banks.”

Olusola explained that it will always be difficult for outsiders to defraud customers without the foreknowledge and support by insiders, who in most cases are outsourced workers.

He noted that though outsourced staff are entitled to have freedom of association whereby they can belong to any trade union of their choice, yet such workers knowing that their job security is missing are often discouraged to show full loyalty to their workplace.
