Update on Ebute Metta building collapse: 2 dead, 23 rescued so far

Twenty-three persons have so far been rescued, with two others confirmed dead at the site of the building that collapsed at 24, Ibadan Street (East), off Muritala Mohammed Way, Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Those so far rescued include 22 males and one female. A male and female, each, have been reported dead.

Just as the Zonal Coordinator Southwest, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said that the officials are still carrying out rescue operation at the next building next to the collapsed three storey building in Ebute Metta.

Farinloye noted that the evacuation is a
step being taken to prevent more deaths from the next building.

He said though the building had not collapsed evacuation was ongoing to save lives and property.

Speaking with allcitynews.ng he said that the building located at No.100 Lagos Street, about 200 metres away from the earlier collapsed three-storey building at 32, Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta, Lagos has shown signs of serious distress, with part falling off.

“The building had earlier been marked as distressed but the occupants were deviant in leaving the premises,” he said.

He said that a three-storey building collapsed at 32, Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta, Lagos, on Sunday night.

It would be recalled that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service made an announcement late Sunday, adding that rescue operations had begun.
