Following the landslide victory of the inccubent Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Rt ( Hon) Sheriff Oborevwori in the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) yesterday, in Asaba, Delta State, a Public Affairs cum Political analyst Pastor Ikupa Johnson Obaro has called on the leadership of Uhrobo Progressive Union (UPU) to close ranks and throw their weight behind Oborevwori.
Pastor Ikupa who is based in Warri stated this in a media statement signed by him and made available to our medium yesterday in his congratulatory message to Oborevwori, said that ” Curriculum vitae” (CV) alone doesn’t wins election.
According to him, “I said it loud and clear that UPU leaders goofed when it has to support one out of it’s many sons who contested for the seat.
“If two or more of your children are dragging an item, you do not take sides.
“You rather stay neutral, objective, and impartial or you simply keep quiet. That was why I said it was too early for them to take sides.”
In addition he said, “now that the sheaves are down , it is clear who is the better candidate. It is not too late for the UPU leadership to retrace it’s footsteps.
“The greater mistake it will make is to support another candidate against Sheriff Oborevwori, ” he stressed.
Ikupa added, ” Delta State is a PDP State, the PDP structure in the state is impregnable and her elections strategies are second to none.
“Let’s not forget that Delta State has three senatorial zones and the voting strength, one must be complemented by the other to ensure victory at the polls,” Ikupa stressed.
The analyst added that with PDP primaries concluded, Senator James Manager has no option than to support Oborevwori so that he and his Ijaw nation would get his support when it’s their turn, stressing that Delta North senatoral district is controlled by Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa.
“Anyone thinking that if one PDP camp decamp to another party, then they can defeat Oborevwori and the PDP conec2023 should have a rethink.
“The right thing for the UPU leadership to do now is to congratulate Sheriff Oborevwori , if it has not done that.”
Furthermore he said, “The fragile unity and peace in Uhrobo nation should be improved upon.
“On this note, I salute the courage of Sheriff Oborevwori for not succumbing to intimidation and blackmail. I congratulate him on his well deserved victory.
“When I said he is the most qualified for gubernatorial seat because he is the only grassroot personality among the contestants, I had no water in my mouth.
“If Uhrobo want their son to be in the Delta State Government House in Asaba come 2023, Sheriff Oborevwori is their best candidate,” he wanted.
