Obasa makes history, becomes first Lagos Speaker to be impeached

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, made history in becoming the first Lagos State House of Assembly to be impeached in recent times.

Just as the Lagos House of Assembly made another history in having the first female speaker in person of Right Honourable Mojisola Metanda.

Today, Monday 13 January 2025 witnessed turn of event as power changed hands within the Lagos House of Assembly following a dramatic removal of the speaker events of the Assembly.

In a swift move, the Deputy Speaker,
Rt. Hon Hon Mojisola Metanda (Apapa I) was sworn in as the new Speaker of the House.

Mudashiru Obasa was removed from his position over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Obasa who represents Agege State Constituency I in 2007 has been re-elected four times in 2011, 2015 2019 and 2023. He was first elected Speaker in 2015 and became the longest serving speaker.
