Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) helmsman has described 2023 as a very trying period for Nigerian workers, which should not repeat itself in 2024 even as he noted that  Year 2024 should be year of restoration of peace, progress and prosperity for all Nigerians.

NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero lamented against the unfortunate activities of politicians who played up anti-masses activities all in their bid to win elections in year 2023.

“Our nation has therefore become more divided than ever with growing suspicion and increasing trust deficits along those lines.”

FG has shown insincerity towards welfare of Nigerian masses

The NLC hierarchy expressing displeasure with the hardship Nigerians went through in 2023, blamed Federal Government for mixing governance with politics, adding that “this government has shown enormous unfaithfulness in keeping to agreements; the N35,000 Wage Award has not been faithfully implemented, the Port Harcourt refinery has not come on stream as projected rather government with its agents went about to feed the nation with lies by pumping gas into the refinery in order to deceive the country.

Similarly, he lamented that the National Minimum Wage Negotiation Council has not been inaugurated as agreed, the CNG has been distorted by agents of government for the benefit of a few.

He called on BAT to give life a meaning for everyone in 2024.

Lamented against divide & rule style by political class

“Divisions along our various primordial fault lines rather than heal became exacerbated this year mainly as a result of the unfortunate activities of politicians who played them up in their bid to win elections.

“Our nation has therefore become more divided than ever with growing suspicion and increasing trust deficits along those lines.

“Citizens’ confidence in the government is therefore deeply wounded causing further disconnect between the people and governments as government continues with policies that negate the welfare of citizens.”

Furthermore, he scoring the BAT regime very low noted: “We observe only few pockets of progress in governance in some states but largely, the instruments of governance are mainly deployed for the sole benefits of those who believe they have captured the instruments of governance thus use them for their sole benefit.”
