New age approved by Federal for admission into tertiary schools is 16

In apparent bid to create smooth level for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, Federal Government has now placed the level at 16 years.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, on Tuesday during the opening of the ongoing Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.

Alausa said that this policy reflects a balance between cognitive maturity and academic preparedness.

He noted that the minimum entry age of 16 is non-negotiable, and all institutions are directed to strictly comply with this regulation.
