As ignorance cannot be accepted as excuse so, this is to warn motorists.
This statement is from vehicle inspection office.
The warning became imperative following reported cases of motorists falling into the errors which could have been avoided:
Yesterday a report was made about a Vehicle apprehended by VIO here in Lagos and made to pay 6 years arrears of debt and ticketed N20,000 as fine.
The Vehicle carries a Lagos Plate Number and for the past six years the Vehicle has been in the East and the owner renews all Papers in the East.
Three (3) major Papers to renew include;
-Vehicle License
-Road Worthiness
-Insurance
The reported vehicle when apprehended it was discovered that the Vehicle License has not been renewed for the past six years as seen on the Lagos VIO System.
The owner became confused because the Vehicle License is being renewed in the East. The Road Worthiness and Insurance also are done in the East but no issues with them except the Vehicle License.
The six years arrears collected amounted to over N30000 because it’s SUV and a ticket of N20000 fine.
For clarity:
Vehicle License;
If your Vehicle Plate Number is Lagos, it’s wrong for you to renew the Vehicle License in other States and same applies to other Vehicles Plate Number in other States. The right thing to do is to continue renewing your Vehicle License in the State attached to the Vehicle number.
Road Worthiness;
This can be done in any State as it’s to certify that your Vehicle is Road Worthy after inspection/certified to be on the road.
Insurance;
This also can be done in any State provided it’s a genuine Insurance Company.
Suggestions to the required Agencies issuing Vehicles License, Road Worthiness and Driver’s License.
At the point of collection of the above documents, each Vehicle Owner/Driver should be educated on what to know and there should be a small booklet/Card with detailed information on what has been said above.
