As the seed of talents hunts by Dr D.K Olukoya and evangelism through sports started yielding positive results, MFM Women Basketball Team, winner of Zenith Women’s Basketball League, on 19 November 2023, apart from masters in the fields of play came for thanksgiving service in Prayer City over the victory.

Led by the President of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Women Basketball Club, Godwin Enakhena, the team showed their dexterity in praises and thanksgiving to God for his grace given to them to be the overall winner despite the number of oppositions by other teams.

Addressing the large crowd who were in Prayer City for the November Weekend Deliverance, Enakhena who is also the chairman of Sporting Lagos Football Club a newly promoted team in the nation’s elite division, charged the church to give thanks and praises to God and to the General Overseer of MFM Worldwide, Dr Daniel Olukoya, his amiable wife, Dr Folashade Olukoya, the Prayer City Camp Commandant, Pastor Richard Olumayowa, the Chairman, Ministerial Committee & Regional Overseer, Pastor Francis Adeyanju, Prayer City, the whole Regional Overseers in Prayer City, the entire pastorate and all members of MFM Prayer City for their moral and prayers which made the team became celebrated team.

“We want to also give thanks to Pastor Alewi for accommodating us, without him, we would have found it tough to get suitable accommodation”.

According to him Pastor Alewi was also instrumenal to the success story of the team. He revealed that paying salaries as at when due and providing a befitting accommodation for the team would have been big factors If not for them.

“We want to give thanks to God and to our mentor and builder, Dr D.K. Olukoya for his vision in 2006 to catch boys and girls from streets, the hands of the devil and make them live for Christ through talent hunts.

“If not of the the grace of God, the efforts of our GO and his wife, one could have better imagined how tough it would have been to gather such girls from different backgrounds and make them to shun wearing trousers, make-ups or other things that worldly ladies and women are into today but to stay discipline.”

That seed planted by Dr D.K. Olukoya,
which eventually became reality in 2018/2019 when Dr Folashade Olukoya came out with the idea of having fully-women-oriented team, in that 2019, we became 2nd best but today, we are celebrating God’s goodness for making us to be on top. And we hope to become world Women Basketball champion very soon.”

Moreover, Enakhina said “Dr Olukoya and his wife Dr Shade have hearts of gold. Their support for MFM Women Basketball club has been immense, and they’re always there to motivate them. Apart from regular payment of salaries, I’m sure you’ve seen videos of the GO’s wife dancing and singing with the girls in her office? And you can trust that each time they see her and her husband, the ladies and their officials go back home with lots of motivations.”

Furthermore, Enakhina said “My new head coach Ochuko Owolabi should also be commended, she brought discipline and competitiveness to MFM Women Basketball Club”.

Enakhena explained that he is not surprised with Owolabi’s exploits so far because of her discipline and business like approach to the game.

It would be recalled that Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Women Basketball team defeated Nigeria Customs 64 – 60 in the final of the Super 4 playoff at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, Nigeria.

It would be also recalled that the MFM Women Basketball Team on Sunday 19 November 2023 took time to join thousands of non-members and members of MFM in the monthly November Weekend Deliverance.

The keenly contested final was a befitting climax for the season that started months ago after a long wait.

In the first quarter of the final, MFM and Nigeria Customs were tied at 15 points apiece.

MFM, however, established a four-point gap after the second quarter 32-28 and they appeared to be coasting away when the third quarter ended 50-40 still in their favour.

MFM Women’s Basketball Club wins 2023 Zenith Women’s Basketball League.

However, Nigeria Customs mustered a comeback in the final quarter as it ended 58-58.

The development meant five minutes extra time was needed to decide who would carry the day and it was the Olukoya Girls that emerged tops; winning the tension-soaked encounter 64 – 60.

To make it to the Super Four, Nigerian Customs and Air Warriors, emerged from the Savannah Conference, while MFM Women Basketball Club and Bayelsa Blue Whales made it to the final from the Atlantic Conference.

Nigerian Customs braved the odds in their conference, winning all their games to come to Lagos unbeaten but they faltered when it mattered most on wh3n they met with stronger MFM team.
