The new Director General/CEO of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Dr (Mrs) Jummai Tutuwa Adamu, had a first hand check and assessment of the facilities at the institute in order to ascertain their viability and relevance to her goals as the CEO and the overall mandate of the institute.

 

After the time and painstaking visit, the DG was of the opinion that FIIRO has what it takes to further fast track industrialisation in the country.

 

During the inspections, Dr Adamu expressed her satisfaction on the calibre of staff manning the state of the art equipment and the over forty laboratories of the institute.

 

She promised to assist in the capacity development of members of staff with the view of improving on their delivery time and productivity level. She spoke on the need to expose the Institute’s researchers to global best practices that will make them compete favourably with their colleagues in other parts of the world.

 

On the issue of staff welfare, she assured all present that hard work will be adequately rewarded coupled with a conducive atmosphere to work in.

On assumption of office the Director General met with the members of management, various committees handling specific assignments, the executives of the three unions and other relevant personnels.

During the meeting the three unions tabled their areas of concerns and expectations to the new Director General. Collectively, they promised to work and cooperate with the new helmsman to take FIIRO to the next level.

 

In her response the Director General requested for time to digest the various observations and requests with a promise to present them where applicable to the governing board of the institute for long lasting resolutions and solutions.

Dr. Mrs Jummai, an Associate Professor of Biochemistry, was appointed by the Federal Government of Nigeria for a five year nonrenewable tenure. Until her appointment, she held sway as the Director in charge of the National Biotechnology Development Agency.
It is widely expressed that Dr. Jummai will reinact her giant strides at the Biotechnology centre in FIIRO.
