Chief Agba Foundation, expresses concerns over scarcity of Naira Notes

Chief Agba Foundation has appealed to the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to find a lasting solution to the scarcity of the new naira notes, saying it is frustrating humanitarian work.

Its founder, Chief Emeka Agba, said the foundation and other Nigerians are going through tough times as people are being restrained from business transactions.

Agba said the foundation observed with dismay the current scarcity of naira notes due to the emergence of the new notes which has caused untold hardship on the public thereby resulting in pockets of violence in some parts of the country.

According to him, the foundation caters to over seven thousand vulnerable people across the country, with orphans, widows and the elderly swelling the current figure, adding that the foundation relies heavily on the availability of cash to run some of its day-to-day outreach to the less
privileged through its “petty cash” programme.

He said the activities of the foundation have also been hindered due to the ripple effects being felt across areas where the impacts of the foundation have contributed positively over time.

Abga who recalled how some elderly persons have besieged one of the foundation centres, sleeping at the entrance of the building said, “As I speak, we at the foundation cannot render some of the emergency services due to the non-availability of the ready fund, as banks and ATMs are crowded with little or no money to give.”
