The leadership of the trade union in the public sector, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has called on Federal Government to without delay, address the multiple side effects the Naira scarcity is inflicting on Nigerians.
Likewise he urged voters against voting based on religion, tribe, but “Let competency, credibility, capability a sincerity of purpose be your watchwords as you vote for your choiced candidates.”
The President, ASCSN, Comrade (Dr) Tommy Okon, while expressing his displeasure over the ill-timeliness of the Naira redesign and the short period with which the old Naira and the redesigned Naira notes are being made to circulate, the union helmsman lamented that the policy has brought harms to Nigerians and the economy in general.
Likewise he called on the next regime, come May 29, to prioritise the redeeming of the confidence of many Nigerians that have been injured with negative government policies and equally called on Nigerians to use their PVC wisely in order to remove all anti-masses policitians who have no interest of Nigerian workers in their agenda.
He lamented that the informal sector of the economy and those unbanked people are the worst hit as they have no other way of transacting business because of the Naira scarcity.
The President who made this known during interractive session with Labour Writers of Nigeria (LAWAN) not only blamed government for coming out with such policy on Naira redesigned at a period like this, stressed that the old and new Naira notes ought have been given enough time to circulate together rather than creating untold hardship for many people by the sudden steps.
Similarly he blamed bad economic advisers for their roles in the policy summersault which has brought the economy on rotation in circle rather than moving forward.
“Nigeria is like a vehicle without an engine, and not it is not yet uhuru for the incoming administration, because the next president is going to face the issues he never bargained for. We in the labour movement don’t want to take chances because if we lead a protest, the government will cash in on that and say the economy is not conducive for the conduct of elections. We are very conscious of it. We are now applying a scientific approach to industrial relations.
“Our PVC can only be weapon to use against bad government that is anti-workers by casting votes for those with capacity, competency, credibility, capability a sincerity of purpose, irrespective of religion, tribe or political affiliation, but those with contents to deliver.
“Any government that is coming that will not show enormous concern for the workers should be ready to face the wrath of the workers. We are only keeping silent because we want this government to leave in peace so that nobody will accuse the labour union of sabotaging the government to achieve their plans to stop the conduct of elections.”
