MOUNTAIN TOP LIFE, MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL [VOLUME 8, JAN-DEC], TUESDAY 26 DECEMBER  2023:- THE REWARDS FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS [5]

1 But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.

2 And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?

3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.

4 Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity:

5 And cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thee: for they have provoked thee to anger before the builders.

6 So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.

7 But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,

8 And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it.

9 Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.

MEMORY VERSE: 

“Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.” – Nehemiah 2:20 [KJV]

26—12—23 MESSAGE:

Righteousness also promotes success. In Proverbs 2:7, the Bible affirms that God holds success in store for the upright; he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless [NIV].

God measures success by faithfulness rather than by earthly possessions. In 1 Corinthians 4:1-2, the Bible says, “Let no man so account of us, as of the minister of Christ, and stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

Faithfulness is demonstrated by loyalty and dedication to the Lord, by obedience to the Lord and by perseverance. Faithful servants put God first and show their total dedication by trusting and obeying Him throughout their lives.

The Bible also says that success is measured by fruitfulness. Along with faithfulness, we must allow God to produce fruit in our lives. The Bible refers to at least three kinds of fruit that God desires us to produce. The first is the fruit of Christian character.

According to Galatians 5:22-23, our lives should be characterised by love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

The second is the fruit of Christian conduct. When we consistently demonstrate the right character, we will also show the right conduct.

The third is the fruit of converts. Soul winning is an assignment God has given to us all. He wants us to take as many people with us to heaven as possible. Proverbs 11:30 says, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”

When Nehemiah and his team embarked on the noble project of rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem, they were faced with stiff opposition, great challenge and distraction. Sanballat and Tobias conspired against them and wanted them to fail. Nehemiah 2:20 reveals Nehemiah’s reaction to the forces of opposition and discouragement, “So I answered them and said to them, “The God of heaven will give us success; therefore we His servants will arise and build, but you have no portion, right or memorial in Jerusalem.”

Indeed, God gave Nehemiah and his team success and protection. They completed the rebuilding of the broken walls in 52 days (Nehemiah 6:15). Beloved, choose righteousness!
