MAN in partnership with RMRDC to fast track industrialisation

As part of the efforts to renew Real sector’s goal and rekindle industrialisation in accordance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s plan, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has entered into partnership with Raw Material Research and Development Council (RMRDC).

Reiterating further, MAN disclosed that the reason for the collaboration is to enable them tap the abundant natural resources in the country to the betterment of the sector and the economy.

The partnership is also meant to tackle  existing challenges and generate innovative ideas for industry growth and development.

As a result, the groups have announced the forthcoming 2023 Nigeria Manufacturing and Equipment Expo (NMEE) and the Nigerian Raw Materials Expo (NIRAM) where proper showcase of Nigerian raw materials activities will be on displayed.

The Expo scheduled to hold in Lagos this month, with the theme:“Future Manufacturing: Building a Sustainable Roadmap to the Industrialization of Nigeria”, is joint organized event by MAN, RMRDC in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The President of MAN, Otunba Francis Meshioye, made this known during a press briefing on Monday 6 November 2023. He said the event, which will have Professor Pat Utomi as leader of panel of discussants, will offer large, medium, and small manufacturing organisations the immense opportunity to explore novel production processes that enhance output, reduce expenses, elevate product quality, and diversify into new product lines.

Meshioye stated: “This year, our focus is squarely on discussions and solutions that will drive the manufacturing industry towards a prosperous and sustainable future. We’ll explore innovative strategies, cutting-edge technologies, and sustainable practices that can contribute to the growth of the entire African manufacturing ecosystem.

“In the ever-evolving landscape where ongoing technologies and trends, including Blockchain, Internet of Things, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Green Energy, and Augmented Reality, are set to shape the future, we must harness these innovations to foster self-sufficiency.

“It’s equally essential not to lose sight of the importance of harnessing locally sourced raw materials and availing oneself of critical support services such as financing and logistics.”

On his part, RMRDC DG, Ibrahim Hussaini Doko who was represented by John Obekpa, disclosed that the partnership is strategic as it will help to restrategise the agency towards concentration in more research works to boost local raw materials.

Obakpe who is also RMRDC Overseeing Director (Business and Innovation Centre),  also reiterated the motive of the partnership that it is strategic to promote the development and optimal utilisation of Nigeria’s raw materials for sustainable industrial growth.

According to him, since the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) which was established by Decree (Act) 39 of December 17, 1987 is to develop local raw materials and co-ordinate research efforts especially in relation to raw materials acquisition, exploitation, conservation and development, the collaboration with MAN will enable the agency showcase the steps it has taken to actualize it goal so far.
