Glorious Musical BandGlorious Musical Band: A demonstration that sight impairment is not a death sentence

If it is melody mixed with sheer will to survive, look no further than the Glorious Musical band. The Ibadan-based band is made up of physically impaired members, but they have refused to be deterred by that physical handicap.
Instead, they scout for occasions to perform at and be appreciated for it.

The journey began modestly three years at Christ Followers Church (Asolo), Ona Araa Local Government with a small talking drum, Drum sets and Clep drum.

Behind these instruments, you will find them, like Abiola Lasisi the band leader who specialises in playing talking drum, and drum set; Warris Adegoke specialises in playing Clep and Sekere while Samuel Sunday handles drum set, Gongo and Cord.

They may be blind physically, but talent-wise, they have something to offer and so play musical beats such as Fuji, Juju, Afro, Worror, Highlife, Rumber, Reggae and other magnificent and captivating to audiences

According to the band leader Abiola Lasisi popularly called Apior, the Glorious Musical Band performs at events like naming ceremony, graduation ceremony, praise night and other occasions.

And that is what they had been doing to survive, ever since their change in fortune, rather than sitting idly by and moaning.

The three-man band has learnt to survive despite their sight challenge

In fact, even the circumstance of their losing sights is pathetic itself.  According to Abiodun Lasisi, “it was in the year 2001 and I was sent on errand inside the house, to bring something, and something hit me in the eye”, and before you knew it, he had become blind.

For the second band member, Samuel Sunday “My blindness happened in Lagos at Monarch Primary school, while I was 3 years old. A friend of mine inserted pencil into my eye when we were fighting.

“Though we went to different hospitals in Lagos and Ibadan for various medical treatments but they could not do anything, I give thanks to my parents who have been supporting me”.

On the other hand, Adegoke Warris says: “My blindness was caused by sickness and we spent a lot but I believe in God”.

Rather than being united in grief, the threesome have not pulled their talents together, seeking out occasions and performing at them.

Thus, rather than being united in grief, they now decided to help out their destinies; play at churches, Maolid Nabiyi, and traditional parties.

“Though we are blind but we understand the rudiments of beats playing and we are open for both local and international invite”, the three members of the Glorious Musical Band opined.

Glorious Musical Band is not only reshaping the sound of traditional and modern African music but is also providing that true talent thrives globally.
