TOPIC for SAT 21/05/22:-story behind the glory
WELCOME to DCLM Devotional for 21/05/22
TEXT:2 CHRONICLES 17:12-19
KEY VERSE: And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store” (2 CHRONICLES 17:12).
Often times, people see and admire an already made and successful man. They see his glory as it shines bright and desire to be like him. But many do not really know the story behind such glory neither are they willing to learn from what it cost to reach such an enviable height. Successful men do not just appear out of the blues; they have stories to tell about their rise to limelight.
Our passage today gives us a glimpse of Jehoshaphat’s wealth, strength and glory. He worked assiduously hard to fortify his kingdom and sought the Lord diligently like his forefather, David. He jettisoned the prevailing lifestyle of Baal worship and refused to be influenced by the vices of the neighbouring nation of Israel. Consequently, the presence of the Lord strengthened and prospered him with the glory.
It is not enough to desire the kind of glory you see in highly prospered children of God; you should be willing to learn from their story of deep devotion and dedication to the Lord as well as their discipline and dutiful devotion to their works. Avoid all temptations to cut corners and cheat in order to be successful.
The Lord is willing to bless you with His presence and strengthen you to prosper as He did for Jehoshaphat if you too will look away from the common practices around you, fear the Lord and diligently follow His ways. Your life will be glorious and your story, sweet to tell.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Don’t just admire the glory; learn from the story behind it!
THE BIBLE in one YEAR: RUTH 1-2
21/5/22 MEDITATION
What truly great administrators do
1. Invest in physical security
a. There will always be wicked and violent people in every generation. They were sometimes called sons of Belial in the Bible.
b. Jehoshaphat built fortifications (castles) and invest in training people and building heavy and effective security for His people even though he believed in the power of God to protect Israel, vv12,15-18.
c. A good administrator invest in the physical, financial, knowledge and economic security of his people in order to keep them from all forms of attacks.
2. Invest in food security
a. He used his foresight to build “cities of stores” or silos to store food materials in preparation for the rainydays, v12. This was a buffer against famine and economic distress.
b. This is how you know a good and responsible administrator, family man/woman.
3. Invest in shares and businesses
a. “And he had much business…” v13. He had businesses and created jobs for his people.
b. Economic empowerment of the subjects through different means available is one of the duties of a successful administrator, v13.
4. Invest in spirituality
a. The report that one of his security personnel “willingly offered himself to the LORD” (v17) is instructive on how he could command his people and associates to yield their lives and services to God in concecration.
b. A true spiritual leader, administrator or family man/woman will always do their best to command their households and subjects to go in the way of the LORD.
QUESTION
Do you see yourself as a good leader, administrator or family leader from the ways of Jehoshaphat above?
PRAYER POINTS
Lord, I ask you to give me wisdom and understanding to be a good and effective leader.
I ask for the heart of a leader that is void of selfishness but cares for his people with commitment.
Pray for our church leaders that they will be helped by the Lord to be leaders indeed.
Pray that our governmental leaders will be taught, by the Spirit, to be sacrificial and not self centred.
*HYMN* Jesus will reign.(GHS 212)
MAY THE PEACE OF THE LORD BE WITH YOU!
