A Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, on Monday convicted 13 individuals arrested earlier the same day for engaging in open defecation and urination in the Agege and Alimosho areas of Lagos State.
The accused persons, who were apprehended by environmental enforcement officers, pleaded guilty to the charges when arraigned before the court. The presiding magistrate subsequently sentenced each of them to three months’ imprisonment for violating environmental sanitation laws.
The convicts include:
1. Friday Samuel – 49 years
2. Sulaimon Olalekan – 54 years
3. Idris Jimoh – 45 years
4. Alao Babatunde – 54 years
5. Chinonso Dominic – 21 years
6. Akeem Suraju – 42 years
7. Lawal Idris – 29 years
8. Oluwatobi Adebayo – 30 years
9. Ismaila Adeyemi – 35 years
10. Murtala Jamilu – 20 years
11. Samson Memudia – 54 years
12. Jamilu Abdullahi – 29 years
13. Ganiyu Akeem – 55 years
The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining a cleaner and more hygienic environment across the state. The public is urged to make use of public toilets and refrain from actions that constitute environmental infractions.
