BREAKING NEWS: fear of  fuel scarcity spreads as Labour remains adamant, insists on strike

There is fear of scarcity of petroleum products and the nation be thrown into more darkness as electricity union, oil and gas unions, courier, maritime, banks have all mobilised members for the strike, which will start by 12midnight of 2 June 2024.

Information reaching allcitynews.ng said all affiliates under NLC and TUC are taking part in the strike with special task force set up to ensure total compliance by all.

With just few hours to begin the planned nationwide strike following the refusal of Federal Government to shift its ground over its earlier proposal of N60, 000, as New National Minimum Wage and its systematic refusal to reverse the hike in electricity tariff, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) labour has mobilised affiliate unions and its state councils across the country to ensure total compliance with the strike.

Even as the Federal Government has begged against the strike.

As time to the commencement of the
planned strike is only few hours away, organised labour has insisted in embarking on nationwide strike despite plead by federal government.

Vowing for total strike, NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero insisted that unless government meets the main two demands, which are reversal of the hike in electricity tariff and New National Minimum Wage, by 12 midnight, 2 June 2024, Labour will embark on the planned strike.

Unless the strike is not allowed to take place, all business activities will be grounded by 3rd June 2024 as critical unions have prepared for the strike.

NUEE
As National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has already mobilised its members for the strike. This would further worsen the current near-zero electricity supply supply as workers in the sector will join in the strike.

CALSSAN

Association of Courier service providers, under the umbrella of Courier and Logistics Services Staff of Nigeria (CALSSAN) has prepared members for the strike.

Maritime
The union in maritime industry,
Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) is set for the strike.

NUBIFIE

The union in banking sector, National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (NUBIFIE) has mobilised its members for for the strike.

NUPENG

The two unions in the oil and gas industry NUPENG and PENGASSAN have already put all their members under alert for the commencement of the strike.

It would be recalled that as part of its efforts to prevent the planned strike, Federal Government has pleaded with organised labour.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed,

While describing the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress as partners in Project Nigeria, Mohammed noted that industrial action was not the solution to the ongoing negotiation for a new minimum wage for workers.
