MFM Topic for WED 09\08\23:-be a peacemaker

Welcome to MFM Devotional 09\08\23

PRAISE & WORSHIP
1 Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us
o’er the world’s tempestuous sea;
guard us, guide us, keep us, feed us,
for we have no help but thee;
yet possessing every blessing,
if our God our Father be.

2 Saviour, breathe forgiveness o’er us:
all our weakness thou dost know;
thou didst tread this earth before us,
thou didst feel its keenest woe;
lone and dreary, faint and weary,
through the desert thou didst go.

3 Spirit of our God, descending,
fill our hearts with heavenly joy,
love with every passion blending,
pleasure that can never cloy:
thus provided, pardoned, guided,
nothing can our peace destroy.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Proverbs 12–13; 1 John 1–2

MEMORY VERSE:
Matthew 5:9 – Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Be a peacemaker not a peace taker.

9/8/23 PROPHETIC WORD:
The peace of God that passeth all understanding shall envelop your life, in the name of Jesus.

FIRE SCRIPTURE:
Judges 4: 6-16 –  And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedeshnaphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the Lord God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?

7 And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand.

8 And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go.

9 And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the Lord shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.

10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.

11 Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.

12 And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor.

13 And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.

14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

15 And the Lord discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.

16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.

9/8/23 MESSAGE:
The Bible says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9). One of the hallmarks of spirit-led and mature believers is that they promote peace wherever they go. They know the importance of love, unity and peace in human relation.

Hence, they restore all these where they are lacking. Beloved, the God of peace wants you to be a peacemaker.
Deborah was a peace maker. “She would sit under Deborah’s palm tree between Ramah and Bethel in the Ephraim highlands, and the Israelites would come to her to settle disputes” (Judges 4:5 CSB).

Deborah settled disputes. She brought people together other than scattering them. She is not one of such people that sow discord and separate chief friends. She was never a busy body in other people’s matter. She brought fragmented relationships together. She mended broken homes. She was a peace lover.

You would never find her in the seat of the scorful and jesters cracking unhealthy jokes or backbiting a fellow human. She loved peace. She worked for the unity of God’s people during her days and it paid off because they also came all out and stood with her and Barak in the fight against Sisera.

It is quite unfortunate that the body of Christ has been so divided these days that people now see nothing wrong in tearing down a fellow Christian, destroying others in order to get to the top. How much do you love peace? How is your relationship with neighbours and acquaintance? Do you always want to win every argument?

Do you know when to let go and give peace a chance? How well do you sustain good relationships in your life? Are you the type that sow the seed of discord among brethren in church? Have you fought with everybody in your compound because your have to prove a point?

The Bible says “It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman” (Proverbs 22:19). Beloved, I want you to take an inventory of your relational life today and leam from Deborah.

Life is too short to be lived in grudges, hate and contention. Be a peace lover.
